As the local anesthesia wears off, it is normal to experience some sensitivity in your teeth and gums. Stick to a soft-food diet (yogurt, smoothies, soups) and avoid extremely hot or cold drinks. It is crucial to refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol during this period, as they can hinder gum healing and compromise the veneer bonding process. Mild discomfort is expected and can be managed effectively.

Medication, Hygiene, and Long-Term Care

For sensitivity, over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Nurofen) or Paracetamol are sufficient. Your dentist may also prescribe a short course of anti-inflammatories. After 24 hours, begin a gentle oral hygiene routine using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste (e.g., Sensodyne True White). Floss daily by sliding the floss through the side rather than snapping it against the veneer's edge. Long-term, avoid using your teeth as tools (to open packages) and biting directly into very hard foods like ice or bones. If you grind your teeth, a nightguard is mandatory.

Your Follow-Up Schedule & What to Expect

Before you leave Istanbul, you will have a final check-up. Your clinic will ask you to send clear photos of your bite and smile at the 1-month and 6-month marks for a remote assessment. It is normal for your speech (especially 's' and 'f' sounds) and bite to feel slightly different for the first 1-2 weeks; this is a temporary adjustment period as your mouth adapts. For any immediate concerns, contact your patient coordinator via WhatsApp or email.
